Sure its’ cool to show your friends what you can do that they can’t. But, using an electronic device such as a home computer or phone system to look at or get stuff without the owners’ permission is simply against the law.

Figuring out the password of a friend’s email account and reading their mail before they do or changing anything about their mail is not cool. Neither is looking through or changing anything in your friend’s computer or a public computer without the owners’ permission. These are not practical jokes. Persons who do these things could very likely end up in jail WHEN (not ‘if’) they are caught.

Are you that talented? You can write your own scripts and programs to bypass security? Then, ask your parents if you can use these special skills to help your neighborhood and community. Companies and government agencies want to know where their security weaknesses are but they do not want persons breaking into their systems without their permission.
Your parent or guardian will know how to begin and who to ask so you can develop your talents and use them for worthwhile purposes. If you do not want to approach your parent or guardian, you can ask your local police computer crime unit or local businesses for ideas about part-time computer security employment. But since you are still a minor, your parents will eventually probably need to know and give their consent.
